DECATUR, Ga. - Agnes Scott's basketball team kicked off their 2025-26 campaign with an exciting contest against Hollins University (2-0) on Saturday, leading the contest throughout the first half before Hollins used a strong third quarter to pull away, winning 59-44. The game was part of the Agnes Scott Tipoff Classic.
The first quarter was all Agnes Scott (0-1), as they raced to a 13-2 lead with 1:16 left in the stanza. Hollins would pick up two late baskets to bring the lead back down to 7 points, as the Scotties led, 13-6. Freshman guard
Kaycie Hyde had a solid debut, leading the Scotties in the first quarter with 4 points in her first collegiate action.
The second quarter looked like a repeat of the first, as the Scotties continued to apply pressure and held a 6 point lead with 1:56 to play. Hollins stepped up the defensive pressure and took advantage of 4 Scottie turnovers to squeak into halftime with a 1 point lead, 24-23.
The third quarter began with both teams going cold, as neither team scored until almost four minutes in, as Noelani Carter gave Hollins a 3-point lead, 26-23, which they would never relinquish. The Scotties were handcuffed by being whistled for 6 fouls in the quarter, to 1 for the Hollins team. In the end, the Scotties would be called for 23 fouls, compared to 12 for Hollins. Hollins entered the fourth quarter up 13 points, 43-30.
 The closest the Scotties would come the rest of the contest would be a 10-point margin, as sophomore
Alex McElroy drained a 3-point shot with 6:21 left to bring the game to a 51-41 count.
McElroy would lead the Scotties with 9 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists. The Scotties would use a balanced scoring attack on the day.
Anissa Brailsford finished with 7 points and a team-high 11 rebounds.
Kaycie Hyde had 7 points to go along with 5 boards. Ryley Holly pitched in with 6 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 steals. Freshman
Cybele Forbes, limited to 12 minutes due to foul trouble, still managed 6 points and 3 blocked shots. Graduate student
Damaris Gaines also had a strong debut off the bench, adding 6 points and 5 rebounds.
The Scotties will wrap up the Tipoff Classic as they face off with Brenau at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.
