Tennis Season Ends in Conference Semifinals

Scotties Fall to #1 Seed

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The tennis team of Agnes Scott College (4-12, 4-5 Collegiate Conference of the South) ended their 2023-24 campaign with a 5-0 loss to top-seeded Piedmont (23-4, 8-0 CCS) in the Conference Tournament on Friday. The loss ends the Scotties' season, but there were many positives to be drawn from the play of the Scotties down the stretch in conference play, as Interim Head Coach Kenyon Generette-Oliver and five returning starters from this year's squad look toward next season.

In the semifinal match, Piedmont continued to do what they have done all season in CCS play, shutting out their opponent for the 8th time in 8 tries. In fact, the Scotties are the only team in the conference to take a set off of the Lions this season, achieved by CCS Second-Team All-Conference sophomore, Iris Ray, in the  regular season matchup with the Lions. She was once again the closest match against the lions, rallying from 2-5 down in the first set to being on the brink of leveling the set when the match was decided, trailing 4-5 on Court 3.

Quotes from Coach Generette-Oliver on the season: "I am very proud of this team and all we were able to accomplish. We were able to turn things around and win 4 of our last five matches, including our first round of the Conference tournament against a team that had beaten us in the regular season. I think we have some great building blocks moving forward. I want to thank Agnes Scott for allowing me the opportunity to coach this great group of young women."

Quotes from Coach Generette-Oliver on the Scottie seniors (Rosie Hagel, Fabiola Garcia and Katiuska Toral Castillo): "It has been awesome to see our seniors improve every season. They are good teammates and good people."

The Scotties will return five starters from this year's team, including their top three singles players and two of the three starting doubles tandems.
