Game 1 Recap
The Scotties scored early and often in Game 1, as they batted through the lineup in the top of the first inning, racing to a 5-0 lead.
Sadie McCallum tripled in the first, and starting pitcher
Bryn Greenwood helped her own cause with an RBI double that finished off the scoring in the inning. The Scotties would add to their lead in the top of the third, as McCallum got things started with a single and a stolen base, and
Kenzie Beaudoin reached on a walk and also stole second to give the Scotties runners at 2nd and 3rd.
Keke Mays singled home McCallum, before Greenwood once again gave herself some insurance runs by hitting a sacrifice fly to right field to bring home Beaudoin. Mays would later score on a Covenant error to finish the scoring in the third. Covenant, however, would match the Scotties with 3 runs of their own in the 3rd inning, leaving the Scotties ahead, 8-3.
In the 4th,
Kilee Thomas and
PresLee Hix would each add a run for the Scotties, with Hix batting in Thomas, and Mays picking up another RBI to bring in Hix. Covenant would also add 2 runs in the 4th before the Scotties would close things out in the 5th inning. A
Kristen Gilbert single through the left side brought home
Megan Smith, before Thomas picked up an RBI as her sacrifice bunt brought home
Colleen Thorson. Hix would finish off her Game 1 with an RBI single that brought in Gilbert to give the Scotties the 13-5 lead. Covenant threatened to stretch the game past the 5th inning "run rule," but Greenwood finished off her complete game by striking out the final Covenant batter with a runner on 3rd.
For the contest, the Scotties would register 16 hits, including 6 different players with multi-hit games. Gilbert, Hix, Mays, and Greenwood would all finish with 2 RBIs for the game. The Scotties also were aggressive on the bases, stealing 8 bases. Greenwood finished with a complete game victory, striking out 4 and yielding only 3 earned runs with no walks.
Game 2 Recap
In the second contest, the Scotties started off on the right foot, as
Kenzie Beaudoin singled up the middle in the top of the first, bringing home Hix and Gilbert to give the Scotties the early 2-0 lead. The Scots, however, would respond with 4 runs in the 3rd inning, opening their first lead of the day at 4-2. They would tack on one more run in the bottom of the 4th inning before the Scotties started to rally in the 5th. The Scotties would score 5 unanswered runs over the final three innings before Covenant would rally with two outs and eventually score the game-winner on a single to left center, downing the Scotties, 8-7.
Beaudoin would finish with 2 RBIs in the contest, as she and
Kristen Gilbert both had multi-hit games for the Scotties. Hix scored twice for the Scotties, and pitchers
Amanda Barnes and
Kyra Hornsby would register 7 strikeouts between them. Hornsby would suffer the loss on the mound in relief, pitching 4.1 innings.
The Scotties will await the results of other CCS contests to find out their first-round opponent in the Collegiate Conference of the South Tournament. The winner of the tournament advances to the NCAA Division III National Tournament. The top seed for the tournament will be Belhaven and Huntingdon, who currently sit at #6 and #9 in the national rankings, respectively.
