Scottie Seniors Celebrated

Softball remains tied for 5th in race for final playoff spots

DECATUR, Ga. - On a clear day on Sunday afternoon at Oakhurst Park, Agnes Scott College celebrated the hard work and contributions of its Seniors. The ceremony took place following the Scotties' Collegiate Conference of the South doubleheader against nationally-ranked #11 Huntingdon College (30-4, 13-1 CCS). While the Scotties were unable to pull off the upset over Huntingdon, they battled hard in both contests, dropping Game 1 by a score of 14-8, and following that up with a 10-0 loss in the Game 2.

In Game 1, Huntingdon raced out to an 8-0 lead over the Scotties headed into the bottom of the 4th inning, before Kilee Thomas got the Scotties on the board after stealing third and reaching home plate on an errant throw. The real offense for the Scotties would come in the bottom of the 5th inning, as they would tally 5 runs to bring the game to 9-6 heading into the 6th inning. After Huntingdon would respond with 5 more runs headed into the bottom of the 7th, the Scotties would rally once more, plating two runs with two outs, before Huntingdon escaped with the win, 14-8.

For the Scotties, Junior Kilee Thomas had a stellar game at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Colleen Thorson would also score twice, with an RBI and a double. Mercedes Barker added an RBI, a double, a walk, and a run scored.

In Game 2, the Scotties continued to make good contact with the ball, only registering 1 strikeout in the game, but the Hawks' defense went errorless and held the Scotties to 4 hits in the second contest. Kenzie Beaudoin continued her recent string of stong hitting, finishing the day 2-for-2 for the Scotties, and Barker and Bella Leonardi would also add hits for the Scotties.

The Scotties will hit the road for the final regular-season contest, as they remain in a tie for 5th place in the Collegiate Conference of the South standings with LaGrange College. They will take on Covenant College (5-23, 2-10 CCS) in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 19 on the Covenant College campus to wrap up the regular season.
