MARYVILLE, Tenn. - The Agnes Scott softball team traveled to Maryville today for a doubleheader against the Scots, falling in Game 1, 8-0, before dropping the second game of the series, 10-0. Both games were completed in 5 innings as the Scotties (7-17, 0-6 CCS) look to rebound quickly as they continue their road swing with a doubleheader on Saturday against Collegiate Conference of the South foe, Berea College.
In the matchup with the Scots (21-9, 4-2 CCS) used strong defense to keep the Scotties off of the scoreboard in the contests, preventing several opportunities for the Scotties. In Game 1, the best opportunity for plating a run came in the top of the 5th inning, as the Scotties had placed runners on first and second, when
Megan Smith singled through the right side, but
Sadie McCallum was thrown out on a great throw by the Scots' right fielder at the plate, ending Game 1.
Regan Hutto took the loss on the mound for the Scotties, giving up only one earned run through 4 innings.
In Game 2, the Scots got on the board quickly, scoring twice in the first inning before exploding for seven runs in the second.
Bryn Greenwood was solid on the mound for the Scotties, throwing 2.1 innings and allowing only 4 hits and 1 earned run. At the plate,
PresLee Hix and McCallum both had two hits on the afternoon, as the Scotties scattered 4 hits in each game.
Saturday's doubleheader against the Mountaineers (1-17, 0-8 CCS) is scheduled to begin at noon.Â
