Scotties Fall in Tight Road Contest, 2-1

Cope scores second goal of the week for Agnes Scott

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Agnes Scott took a break from their Collegiate Conference of the South schedule to face off with Trinity Baptist on the road today, dropping a hard-fought 2-1 decision to the Eagles (2-6-0). The Scotties (2-11-0, 1-5-0 CCS) scored early in the first half, before the Eagles came back with two goals of their own and held off the Scotties for the victory.

In the first half, Scotties struck first, as Jaelyn Romans fed a free kick into the penalty area, where Iris Ray beat out the defense and launched a shot at the Trinity Baptist goalkeeper. The ball rebounded off of the goalie and onto the foot of Tatiana Cope, who drilled it into the back of the net for the Scotties, giving them the 1-0 lead 14 minutes into the contest. Trinity Baptist was able to even the match 20 minutes later, as Hana Lohmann scored her third goal of the season. The teams entered halftime locked at 1-1.

In the second half, the Eagles found the net early to give them to game winner, as Ellie Mikeska also scored her third goal on the season. Agnes Scott was unable to muster enough offense to even things up, as only Viv Felso was able to get a shot off for the Scotties in the second half. For the contest, the Eagles outshot the Scotties, 20-4, including 12 shots on target. Olivia Rosario was once again stellar in goal for Agnes Scott, saving 10 of those 12 shots to keep the Scotties alive in the contest.

Cope, who also scored in the Scotties' win over Wesleyan on Tuesday, scored for the third time this season, on only 4 shots, for an incredible 0.750 shooting percentage. Ray's set up shot was the only other Scottie shot on goal, and Sadie Mansfield added the 4th shot for the purple and black.

Agnes Scott will return to the pitch on Wednesday, October 23 as they travel to Covenant College (8-4-1, 4-1-1 CCS) and return to conference play. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on the campus of Covenant.
