Scotties Fall to 2nd Place Scots, 4-0

Rosario logs 19 saves in defeat

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Agnes Scott saw their postseason aspirations for this year come to a close with a tough, 4-0, loss to Covenant College (9-4-1, 5-1-1 Collegiate Conference of the South) on the road on Wednesday evening. The Scotties (2-12, 1-6 CCS) will still play a role in determining the final playoff spot for the six-team CCS Tournament, as they next face off with 7th place LaGrange, who sit a 1/2 game back of Huntingdon College for the final playoff spot. Should the Scotties win that contest, they would finish the season in a tie with LaGrange (5-8-2, 2-5-0 CCS) for seventh place, giving the Hawks (4-8-2, 2-5-1) the sixth place spot.

In the contest at Covenant on Wednesday, the Scotties fought hard against one of the best teams in the conference. The Scotties were the first to display an offensive outburst, as Peighton Freeman managed a shot just 13 seconds into the contest, but Covenant goalie Bronwyn Kickasola made the save in the bottom right corner to keep the Scotties from a shock early advantage.  Covenant got on the board shortly after, as Rachel Wall scored off of an assist from Hannah Ford to give the Scots the early lead at the 4:40 mark. They would tack on another goal at the 20:52 mark when Ford would get a goal of her own, assisted by Aiden Strawbridge. The teams entered halftime with the score 2-0 in favor of the Scots. Scottie goalkeeper Olivia Rosario made an outstanding effort in goal in the first half, stopping 11 Scot shots.

In the second half, while the Scots added two goals (53:43 by Abby Coates and 58:58 by Strawbridge), the Scotties made their presence known on offense as well. While Freeman's shot was the only shot the Scotties could muster in the first half, the second half saw several scoring opportunities for Agnes Scott. Following a corner kick in the 55th minute, Tatiana Cope almost scored her 4th goal of the season, but Kickasola prevented the Scotties from getting on the scoreboard, saving the shot to the top left corner of the goal. Iris Ray also had an opportunity that was stopped by Covenant, and Trinavy Le added a shot for the Scotties as well.

Rosario finished with 19 saves for the evening, and Ray led the Scotties with two shots, with one being on target. The Scotties will return to CCS action as they face off with LaGrange on the road on Saturday, October 26 at 11:00 a.m. Live video of the contest is available HERE and live stats of the contest can be found HERE.
