DECATUR, Ga. - It was a Senior Day to remember for Agnes Scott today, as the soccer team picked up their first Collegiate Conference of the South victory, downing Wesleyan College, 2-1. Before the game, the team recognized the six seniors on the squad,
Trinavy Le,
Jaelyn Romans,
Peighton Freeman,
Viv Felso,
Cassie Soldo, and
Bailee DeShong.
The Wolves were the first to strike, as Becky Leigh Wilson scored her second goal of the season, firing her own rebound past Scottie goalkeeper,
Olivia Rosario, to put the visitors in front, 1-0, in the first half at the 26:40 mark. Eight minutes later, Agnes Scott (2-10, 1-5 CCS) would find the back of the goal, as
Iris Ray passed to
Trinavy Le, who lifted the ball past the goalie before
Tatiana Cope safely dribbled the ball into the net for the equalizer.
The teams would remain locked at 1-1 until the second half, when Ray once again helped the Scotties out, scoring her first goal of the season after assisting on 4 of the Scotties' seven goals this season. A loose ball found the lefties striking foot, and she blasted a shot over the goalie for the game-winner. Later in the half, with less than two minutes to play, the Wolves (0-9, 0-6 CCS) would come close to evening the match, but an athletic diving block by Rosario at the top of the box off the right foot of Abby Gleaton prevented the draw and gave the Scotties a boost entering the final few contests of the season.
The Scotties outshot the Wolves, 17-13, while the Wolves led the way in shots-on-goal, having 10 on target compared to 8 for the Scotties.
Piper Martinsen and
Iris Ray each had 3 shots on goal, and
Peighton Freeman added a true shot for the Scotties, along with Cope's first half goal. Rosario finished the win with 9 saves.
The Scotties will be back on the road on Saturday, October 19, as they travel to Jacksonville, Fla. to take on Trinity Baptist in a non-conference tilt. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
