DECATUR, Ga. – The Agnes Scott College women's volleyball team found themselves locked in a battle to open the 2022 campaign on tonight against Keiser University but was unable to find a way past the Seahawks. The Scotties suffered setbacks in three straight sets, 25-13, 25-12 and 25-6.
The loss dips the Scotties to 0-1 on the young season while KU improves to 16-2 on the year.
"I think we did really good for the first time being on the court this year, with seven (7) first years coming in. We're missing our senior middle so that's a little bit of leadership off the court but overall we had really nice serves," said Head Coach Shanna Trone. "We've been practicing on serving deep, those back lines, and I think everybody executed really well. We're have a little bit of work to do with our serve/receive but overall I didn't see any fear in my team. I saw everybody with passion and trying to get to the ball, they were listening to good instructions. Us playing this NAIA team, very high level out of the sun conference, I think we did extremely well. I'm pretty excited to see what we're going to do with teams that are on our level, some more DIII institutions in our Labor Day Smash tomorrow. You can look for us at 12 and at 4 on our home court in Woodruff. Thank you"
Three first years Zoie Pace (Locus Grove, Ga.), Jessa Torres (San Antonio, Texas) and Raelyn Mornay (New Orleans, La.) all registered three kills apiece in their collegiate debut on offense while first year and outside hitter/return specialist Jessa Torres collected a team-high six (6) digs.
The Scotties pushed the brink in the opening set, ASC pulled within four (15-11) after a service but the Seahawks scored six straight in route to the first set win.
Keiser took an early lead to begin the second stanza and from there the Scotties continued to fight scoring 12 in the set.
Agnes Scott had a slow start with Keiser in the final set of the evening, but some hot hitting and a pair of early runs from the Seahawks made the difference, as ASC was unable to keep pace with its buzzing foe.
The Scotties will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 3 host the Labor Day Smash welcoming Toccoa Falls College, Methodist University and Brevard College to campus. Agnes Scott will play at 12 & 4 p.m. facing Methodist University and Brevard College.
