BEREA, Ky. –Agnes Scott College tennis edged Berea College 5-4 to open USA South Conference play this afternoon.
Brandy Nalyanya along with
Gor'Nese Turner won their No. 1 doubles match by a score of 9-8. The Scotties only doubles setback came at No. 2 when
Leilah Lewinson and
Katiuska Toral Castillo dropped an 8-2 decision to the Mountaineers.
In the singles competition, Agnes Scott captured wins at No. 1
Brandy Nalyanya (9-8, 6-1), No. 2
Gor'Nese Turner (6-4, 3-6, 6-1), No. 3
Leilah Lewinson (6-2, 6-0) and No. 5
Caroline Gladstein (6-0, 6-4). However, Berea was victorious at No. 4 and No. 6, winning by scores of 6-0, 6-0 respectively.
The win improves the Agnes Scott Scotties to 1-6 on the year and 1-0 in USA South play while the Berea College Mountaineers fall to 0-4 and 0-1 in league play. Agnes Scott returns to the court on Wednesday (3/30) and will host Piedmont University at Byers Tennis Courts. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
