DECATUR, Ga. (September 28, 2021) – Agnes Scott College women's volleyball team came up short, dropping a heartbreaker to Piedmont University in five (25-19, 25-20, 22-25, 23-25, 15-5) tonight.
First year Daisy Hooper (Tyrone, Georgia) led the Scotties with a team-leading double-double performance with 12 kills and 20 digs while producing a .050 hitting percentage. Fellow teammate Alex Roquemore (Dallas, Texas) added 11 kills in a losing effort.
Despite hitting a match-best .240 in the opening set, ASC (1-10) was in a back-and-forth affair in game one. ASC held the lead but Piedmont hitting error and a pair of kills from the Scotties secured the opening frame, 25-19.
In game two, Piedmont had a one-point advantage late in the set, 18-17, until Piedmont scored five consecutive points to swing the momentum to give the Lions a match victory, 25-20.
Agnes Scott tied the third set with a kill, but a Lions error and back-to-back kills gave ASC game three, 25-22.
In set four, both clubs battled for the lead but a pair of hitting errors created separation and helped PU tie the match at two apiece.
In the deciding set, the Lions rallied to score six straight points to take the lead. ASC fought back to stay in the game, but PU closed out the match on a 4-1 run to win the match.
