Scottie Offense Clicks Despite Loss to Piedmont

Box Score

DECATUR, Ga.—After more than a week off from competition, Agnes Scott volleyball saw improved results across the board despite a 3-0 loss to Piedmont on Tuesday night. The Lions ultimately took the match 25-17, 25-9, 25-18 to improve to 4-5 on the season, while Agnes Scott dipped to 0-4.

The Scotties had a frustrating result in their home opener versus Maryville a week and a half ago, but better communication on offense and defense showed in the box score on Tuesday. Agnes Scott gave the Lions everything they could handle, often finding scrappy ways to keep points alive.

Tiara White (Sinton, Texas) had a season-high 10 kills on offense, while hitting at a .207 clip. Junior Carmen Ross (Roswell, Ga.) also had a career night on the offensive side for the Scotties. The outside hitter only had three kills through three matches coming in, often being relegated to defensive duty, but Ross stepped up in a big way with a career-high six kills versus the Lions.

The Scotties kept the first set close in the early going, falling behind by a few points at 12-10, but Piedmont responded with a 10-0 run to put some distance between the two sides. Agnes Scott had a run of its own, but the Lions were able to win three of the last five services to take a 1-0 advantage.

Piedmont controlled the second set in its entirety as the Scotties got out of a rhythm on both sides of the ball.

The Lions looked like they might run away with the third set too, but Agnes Scott used a 7-2 run after falling behind by eight to give Piedmont some pause. Piedmont was able to settle out of an Agnes Scott timeout and win the final three points to claim the straight-set victory.

Brianna King led Piedmont with eight kills as all players dressed got in on the action for the Lions.

Alex Roquemore (Dallas, Texas) led all players with 14 digs on the evening.

Agnes Scott heads on its longest road trip of the season to Berea College on Saturday.
