BREVARD, N.C.- The Agnes Scott College volleyball team battled with Brevard College Wednesday night, but was unable to claim the match victory as the Tornadoes took the 3-0 decision.
In the opening set, Agnes Scott dropped the 25-21 decision as the Scotties tallied 10 kills.
Brevard never trailed in the match, as the Tornados took a 2-0 lead in the first set and never looked back. Agnes Scott was able to keep things within striking distance in the first set, tying the score a total of five times, but Brevard used a 6-1 scoring run to take a 21-16 lead late. The Scotties railed off five-of-six points to cut the Tornado lead to one point, 22-21, but a pair of Agnes Scott errors followed by a kill by Brevard closed the set in favor of Brevard, 25-21.
The Tornados scored the first eight points of the second set, using a pair of Lance service aces and two Pressley kills to take the 8-0 advantage. The Scotties were able to cut the deficit to a 16-11 margin before two kills and a service ace helped the Tornados extend their lead, 21-11. Brevard logged a service ace to give Brevard the 2-0 match lead with a 25-14 set two win.
Brevard controlled the third set, as Agnes Scott hung around through the first 20-plus points of the stanza. With BC holding a narrow 12-11 set lead, the Tornados used a 10-3 scoring run to push their lead to a 22-14 margin. Three kills by the home team gave the Tornados the match sweep, 3-0.
Daisy Hooper paced the Scotties offense with six kills, while Alecia Holmes-Terry added 11 digs. First-year Taylor Carnley added five kills and 10 assists for Agnes Scott.
