Offense Shines in Conference Tri-Match Split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MACON, Ga.—A dominant effort in the final match of the day helped Agnes Scott Volleyball earn a split on the opening weekend of USA South action at Wesleyan. The Scotties dropped a four-settle battle to conference contender Maryville in the opener before responding with their biggest victory of the season in a sweep of host Wesleyan.

Maryville 3 – 1 Agnes Scott (26-24, 18-25, 18-25, 18-25)

The Scotties gutted out the first set in extras after a back-and-forth affair, taking the final two points of the set after Maryville had rallied off three straight Agnes Scott set points.

The Scots settled into a rhythm for the rest of the match, hitting above .400 in both the second and third sets to counter a solid offensive showing by Agnes Scott. Maryville was able to put lengthy rallies together in the middle of each of the final three sets—each victories—to break open close scores.

Resa Knott (Atlanta, Ga.) tied her career high with 18 kills to only four errors for a .519 hitting percentage. Agnes Scott hit .158 as a team, but Maryville was a touch ahead at .277 to outpace the Scotties.

Agnes had a season-high eight blocks, including Alexis Smith (Memphis, Tenn.) getting her hands on six assists.

Agnes Scott 3 – 0 Wesleyan (25-4, 25-7, 25-10)

The Scotties saw their two widest margins of victory in the first two sets of a straight-set win over the Wolves. Each Scottie on the roster saw playing time in the match and newcomer Musumaulai Galoia (Hephzibah, Ga.) tied for the team lead in kills with five. Smith also contributed five.

Paige Heck (Indianapolis, Ind.) showcased brilliance in the service game with 12 aces, accounting for exactly half of the Scotties' season-high total in the category.
