Box Score 2 After dropping two matches on Saturday, the Agnes Scott volleyball team closed out Sunday with wins over Guilford and Hollins.
The Scotties started the morning with a 3-0 win over Guilford, 25-19, 25-23 and 29-27 earning their first win of the season. Natali Rendon and Lauren Aikens led the attack. Rendon had 10 kills and 33 total attacks (.182). Aikens added 12 kills with 20 total attacks (.500). Sophomore Lexus Travis added five kills. Senior libero Shelli Sherman had 25 digs with another 10 from first-year Alex Moses. Junior Shakirah Dodson had 13 assists and four kills.
In the afternoon, Agnes Scott and Hollins faced off in five sets. Hollins took the first set 25-19, Agnes Scott battled back with a 26-24 win in the second set. Hollins returned in the third set with a 25-21 win. The Scotties clinched the win with a 25-21 and 15-9 in the fourth and fifth sets respectively.
Aikens once again led with 21 kills (.326). Rendon was not far behind with nine kills and Travis added five. Sherman led with 38 digs, Rendon added 17 and Dodson contributed 16 along with 30 assists.
Shelli Sherman was named to the All Tournament team for her play in all four matches. The last match of the day put Sherman above the 1,000 milestone for career digs with a record of 1,036 career digs.
With today's wins, Agnes Scott's record improves to 2-5. The Scotties will return to action on Wednesday with a home game against LaGrange. The match will start at 6:30 p.m. Admission to all home games is free.
38 digs in the last match of the weekend put senior Shelli Sherman above the 1000 digs milestone with a total of 1,036 career digs.
Junior Natali Rendon had a total of 19 kills on Sunday in wins over Guilford and Hollins.
