Scotties Down Panthers, 6-1

Cox, Pearson, Ziller and Le All Win Twice

LAGRANGE, Ga. - Agnes Scott dramatically improved their chances at reaching the Collegiate Conference of the South postseason this afternoon, as they took down LaGrange (2-14, 0-5 CCS) by a final score of 6-1. The Scotties picked up the doubles point for the first time this season, as the depth of the Scotties lineup was the key to victory over the Panthers.

For Agnes Scott (2-8, 2-4 CCS), the #2 doubles team of Katherine Cox and Jasmine Ziller dominated their match, winning 6-1 over Fuller and Moat of LaGrange. At the #3 spot, Feliz Pearson and Trinavy Le swept to a 6-0 win over Florinda Galbreath and Aireona Williams, giving the Scotties the important 1-0 lead entering singles. At the top spot, the duo of Karla Wiley and Olivia Dusterdieck were too much for Agnes Scott, as the top team of Taylor Hendley and Leilah Lewinson fell, 6-2, to give LaGrange the #1 match.

In singles, the Scotties raced to quick finishes as Pearson was the first off the court, winning her match without dropping a game at the #5 spot, downing Galbreath, 6-0, 6-0. Lewinson was next off and stretched the lead to 3-0 in favor of the Scotties, taking out Fuller by a 6-0, 6-2 scoreline. Katherine Cox clinched the match for the Scotties at the #3 spot, as she easily handled Reese Moat, 6-0, 6-2, for her first win of the season in singles. Also picking up big wins for the Scotties in singles were freshman Jasmine Ziller, who took down Dusterdieck, 6-0, 6-1 at the #4 spot. Trinavy Le battled through a close first set before running away with her first singles win of the season, taking our Williams, 6-4, 6-0. Wiley, the freshman standout for the Panthers this season, got LaGrange on the board with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Hendley at the top spot.

With the win, the Scotties place themselves in a great position to qualify for the Collegiate Conference of the South Tournament, as they now have head-to-head wins over Belhaven and LaGrange, with their final match of the regular season still left to play at Covenant.
