DECATUR, Ga. - Freshman standout
Alex McElroy led all scorers with 18 points, but it was not enough to overcome a balanced attack from Covenant College (5-4, 1-0 Collegiate Conference of the South), as the Scotties fell, 67-47, in the first game of 2025.
The first quarter was a back and forth affair, as the Scots pressed the Scotties (1-9, 0-2 CCS) and caused chaos for the Agnes Scott offense. The Scotties struggled to find the basket, but McElroy was able to hit for 6 points in the opening stanza and keep the Scotties within striking distance, as they trailed, 17-12, after ten minutes of play.Â
The next two quarters would put the game out of reach, as the Scotties were simply unable to take advantage of their shooting opportunities, going 1-for-13 in the second quarter to allow the Scots to extends their lead to 52-24 by the end of the third quarter.Â
The Scotties did rally in the 4th quarter, buoyed by 8 points from McElroy. Also contributing for the Scotties on the evening was freshman forward
Anissa Brailsford, who finished with 8 points in the loss.
The Scotties will look to rebound on Saturday, January 4, as they face off with Belhaven (5-5, 2-0 CCS), who defeated Wesleyan, 95-51, on Friday evening. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in the Woodruff Gymnasium at the Agnes Scott College campus.
