MACON, Ga. - Traveling to Collegiate Conference of the South foe, Wesleyan College (0-12, 0-5 CCS), the Agnes Scott basketball team led from start to finish as they ran away with the contest, 61-40. With the win, the Scotties (2-12. 1-4 CCS) move into 8th place in the conference standings as they enter the heart of their conference schedule.
The Scotties raced out to a 6-0 lead in the first quarter, as
Laila Williams and
Anissa Brailsford would open the scoring with back to back buckets, to give a preview of things to come, as the two would go on to combine for 40 points. The Scotties never trailed in the contest, as they extended a 7-point first quarter lead into an 18-point cushion by halftime, entering the break with a 31-13 lead.
In the second half, the Scotties quickly ballooned their lead to over 30 points at one point, before cruising to the 21-point win as Wesleyan found the hot hand in the 4th quarter, netting 19 points down the stretch.
Brailsford led all scorers with 21 points, and registered a double-double with 10 rebounds, and added 4 steals for good measure. Williams contributed 19 points in her second game back from injury, nailing two from long range and adding 4 steals of her own. The Scotties would force the Wolves into 28 turnovers for the contest. Other notable performances were turned in by
Ryley Jolly, who tied her freshman classmate with 10 rebounds, while
Sydney Evans disrupted the Wolves inside, registering 5 blocked shots, 8 rebounds, and 2 steals of her own.
The Scotties will look to build on the momentum of the win, as they return to CCS action on Tuesday against LaGrange (9-6, 3-3 CCS). The contest is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. tipoff on the campus of Agnes Scott.
