ROANOKE, Va. - Agnes Scott (1-5-0) picked up their first win of the season this afternoon on the road, as junior forward
Marilyn Bates had bookend goals in the game, including the game-winner with 2 minutes remaining. Hollins (2-2-0), off to one of the best starts in the program's recent history, outshot the Scotties, 18-13, with both programs registering 6 shots on goal. Agnes Scott goalkeeper
Olivia Rosario was the difference-maker, saving 5 of Hollins' 6 attempts.
Similar to the recent match against The W last weekend at home, Bates led off the scoring with a first half goal, as she bounced a shot off of a defender and past the goalkeeper to notch her second score of the season. The score would remain a 1-0 advantage for the Scotties until the 76th minute, when Hollins' Adelie Condra scored her fifth goal of the season, launching a shot into the top left corner over the outstretched arm of Rosario. Unlike the match against The W, however, the Scotties refused to allow a first-half lead slip away. The offense for the Scotties continued to press the Hollins defense, and First-Year
Darcy Anderson picked up her first collegiate point by picking up the assist on Bates' second goal. Bates' shot into the top right corner gave the Scotties the lead and the win.
Iris Ray returned to the lineup, launching three shots on the day, with one on target. Defender
Viv Felso also had a shot on goal, while Bates was the offensive juggernaut of the day for the Scotties, striking 9 shots on the day, with 4 on track.Â
The Scotties will return to the pitch on Wednesday, September 25 at home, as they host Toccoa Falls College (4-1-1) in a non-conference matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Gellerstedt Field, and admission for the public, as always, is free.
