Scotties Split Friday Matches

Pearson Shines in Win Over Trinity (Fla.)

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Agnes Scott volleyball hit the road for their second doubleheader of the season, and came back with another split. The Scotties (2-4) first came out on fire, dropping Trinity (Fla.) in straight sets (25-23, 25-15, 25-18) before dropping a 3-1 decision to Paine College (25-18, 16-25, 25-20, 25-22). First-Year Feliz Pearson had her strongest performance of the season, leading all players in the first contest with 19 kills.

Against Trinity (Fla.), Pearson was on fire throughout, registering 19 kills with a scorching .459 hitting percentage. She also finished with 3 service aces and 2 solo blocks. Sophomore Madison Stidum, who was in the Top 10 in NCAA Division III in kills-per-set entering the match, also reached double figures for kills, putting down 11 kills to go along with 13 digs on the defensive end, and 3 service aces of her own. The match also saw the debut of graduate student Kimberley Edelin, who pitched in 5 kills for the Scotties.

Alofamoni Galoia once again ran the Scottie offense out of the setter position, and Jahneya Reynolds, last week's Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Defensive Player of the Week, continued their solid season starts. Galoia pitched in with 34 assists and 3 service aces, and Reynolds led all players with 17 digs in the contest.

It was deja vu for the Scotties against Paine (4-3), as the two teams opened the season, which Paine took in 4 tight sets. The same would happen on Friday as Paine's strong blocking was again the story of the contest, as they registered double digits in blocks to dampen the Scottie effort. Stidum and Pearson would again lead the Scotties in kills, with 22 and 13, respectively. Edelin continued her strong debut for the Scotties, amassing 6 kills and 5 digs in the effort. Galoia continued her strong day, registering 37 assists, and Reynolds led all players once again with 17 digs.

The Scotties will open CCS play on Wednesday, Sept. 25 as they travel to Macon, Ga. to face off with Wesleyan College. The Scotties will continue their conference schedule next weekend, as they travel to Lookout Mountain, Ga. for a tri-match with Huntingdon and Covenant.
