DECATUR, Ga. - Head Coach
Arieon Trinity and the Agnes Scott volleyball team opened their season this week at home. On Tuesday, the Scotties faced off with a strong Paine College team, dropping a 4-set decision, before returning on Thursday evening for another matchup with Toccoa Falls College, where they also fell in 4 sets after taking the opening set from the Screaming Eagles.
Match 1: Paine 3, Agnes Scott 1 (25-19, 27-25, 18-25, 31-29)
In the season opener, the Scotties went toe-to-toe with a solid Lions (2-2) squad. The match hinged on the second and fourth sets, which Paine was able to pull out by a hair in extended points.
Madison Stidum led all players with 23 kills, and added 20 digs on defense to go along with 3 aces on the night.
Adrionna Foster and
Alofamoni Galoia split duties at setter, registering 22 and 25 assists, respectively. Foster also registered double digits in kills, scoring 11. Playing at libero, First-Year
Jahneya Reynolds led the team with 22 digs on defense.
Match 2: Toccoa Falls 3, Agnes Scott 1 (22-25, 25-22, 25-14, 25-20)
In Thursday's contest, the Scotties pulled out the first set after a back and forth contest which featured one of the longest rallies in recent history on set pointm which the Scotties finally won as the crowd erupted. However, Toccoa Falls (4-5) got the better of the Scotties the rest of the way after taking another close set in Set 2. Stidum once again led the Scotties with 12 kills and also registered 27 digs to tie teammate
Jahneya Reynolds in the defensive category.
Feliz Pearson made her presence known at the net, as she registered an impressive 6 blocks in the middle (2 solo, 4 assists), and fellow First-Year teammate and middle hitter
Sierra Lowery added 5 blocks of her own (2 solo, 3 assists). Pearson was also second on the team for the night in kills with 9. Foster (16 assists, 16 digs) finished with a double-double, as did Galoia (10 assists, 10 digs).
Me'Kyah Booker also hit double digits in digs with 11.
The Scotties will look to rebound as they hit the road for the first time this season, traveling to Pensacola, Florida to take on Trinity Baptist College and Pensacola Christian on Saturday, September 14.
