DECATUR, Ga. - The tennis team celebrated their seniors in style today at Byers Tennis Courts, finishing off the regular season on a two-match winning streak, as they easily dispatched of LaGrange (0-18, 0-7 CCS), winning by a score of 8-1. With the win, the Scotties (3-11, 3-4 CCS) wrapped up a spot in the Collegiate Conference of the South Championship Tournament, which will kick off on Thursday, April 25 at the Champions Tennis Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
In today's match, Agnes Scott dominated the doubles portion of play, winning all three spots by scores of 8-0. At No. 1, the Scotties' top duo of
Iris Ray and
Allyson Gibbs rolled to an 8-0 win for their second-straight win at the top spot. At No. 2,
Leilah Lewinson and Senior
Rosie Hagel also blanked their Panther opponents by an 8-0 score, and the sophomore duo of
Annaliese Denbleyker and
Katherine Cox took over the net in an 8-0 win to finish off the sweep.
In singles, the remaining Scottie seniors had a chance to shine, as
Fabiola Garcia dropped only one game at the No. 5 spot, and
Katiuska Toral Castillo won, 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 6 spot. Hagel completed the perfect day for seniors as she took out the No. 4 player for the Panthers by a 6-1, 6-0 scoreline, and Lewinson and Ray registered "double bagels" at the No. 2 and 3 spots, respectively, giving the Scotties the 8-1 win. The Panthers were finally able to get on the board in the final match on court, as senior Journey Oden topped freshman Gibbs of Agnes Scott, 7-5, 7-6(5) for the lone bright spot on the day for LaGrange.
The Scotties await other results in conference play to determine their seeding and first-round opponent on Thursday. The CCS Tournament schedule will be posted as soon as it is available.Â
