In what hoped to be a continued path to victories, the Agnes Scott Scotties faced off against Oglethorpe University in a heated basketball showdown on December 5th. The anticipation was high, the spirits were soaring, but unfortunately, the scoreboard did not reflect the Scotties' aspirations, as they succumbed to a 49-84 defeat.
The game had its moments of brilliance, with standout performances from key players. Laila Williams exhibited her prowess on the court, shooting an impressive 5-9 from the field and sinking 7 of 9 free throws. Williams showcased her versatility with 2 rebounds, 1 assist, and an impressive 5 steals, amassing a total of 17 points for the Scotties.
Haylah Spence also contributed significantly, making 5 of 10 field goals, including a 1-3 performance from beyond the arc. With 6 rebounds and 12 points, Spence played a crucial role in trying to turn the tide for Agnes Scott.
Sydney Evans stood tall with 2 crucial blocks, while Kayla Jones added 2 steals to the defensive efforts. Lindsay Moore, Erika McLeod, Kailynn Richard, Ivery Portis, and Kaela Brooks chipped in with similar contributions, showcasing the team's collective effort.
Despite the setback, there were elements of positivity that couldn't go unnoticed. Laila Williams' performance was a beacon of skill and determination, demonstrating that the Scotties have players who can rise to the occasion even in challenging circumstances.

A special acknowledgment is due to the guest coach for the day, Patricia Andino, an instructor of Spanish at ASC, who stepped in to guide the team. Her support and guidance were invaluable during a critical juncture in the season.
Furthermore, it's essential to express gratitude to Interim Head Coach Shanna Trone. Stepping up at short notice after the departure of the former head coach, Trone has been instrumental in leading the team through transitions. Her dedication and efforts deserve recognition, and the Scotties undoubtedly owe part of their success to her leadership.
As Coach Trone prepares to hand over the reins to the new head coach, Kyle Erha, it's worth noting that the team is in capable hands. The season may have faced an early setback, but with such resilience and talent, the Agnes Scott Scotties are poised for a strong comeback. The journey continues, and the Scotties are gearing up for success under the guidance of their new leader.
