DEMOREST, Ga.—Piedmont shook off a wild first set before settling down to beat visiting Agnes Scott in three sets on Wednesday evening. The Lions improve to 2-6, while the Scotties drop to 0-13.
Summer Davis (Atlanta, Ga.) was the leading offensive player for the Scotties with seven kills and 14 digs.
Adrionna Foster (Oxford, Ala.) finished with 17 assists.
Piedmont start the game with strong momentum opening with a 5-0 lead. The Scotties held the score 12-2 at the halfway point of the opening game, but a strong counter from the Lions saw them win the next points to pull away for a 25-9 victory.
The Scotties could never quite recover from the opening set loss as the Lions found their groove on offense in the second and third stanzas to keep a safe distance between the two sides. Piedmont won the second set 25-15 and the deciding set 25-22.
Agnes' best shot at climbing back into the match came in the third set when they held a tight 9-8 in the third, but Piedmont was able to cobble together points in bunches a few times down the stretch. The Scotties were unable to match with streaks of their own.
The Scotties will travel to Jackson, Mississippi on Saturday for a Collegiate Conference of the South tri-match with Berea College and host Belhaven University at 3:00 p.m.
