DECATUR, Ga.—A tough break led Agnes Scott to finish on the wrong side of a four-set match versus Wesleyan College on Wednesday evening. The Scotties scored 44 points on offense, including double-double performances from
Summer Davis with (10 kills/15 digs) and
Adrionna Foster with 24 assists and 15 digs, but a late mishap in a tight match gave the Wolves the final push they needed to claim the victory.
Wesleyan took advantage of such a beginning, racing out to an 18-7 lead in the opening set and well on their way to an early advantage. To its credit, Agnes Scott broke out of its early woes in a big way, going on a 16-6 run to close the gap to one. The Scotties fended off three consecutive set points to draw close, but Wesleyan ended the threat with a kill to take set one 25-22.
The tables were turned in set two, with Agnes Scott finding its rhythm on offense and running out to a big lead. The Scotties used the momentum for a cover-to-cover triumph in set two at 25-23 before turning their sights to the third game.
Wesleyan had other ideas, taking set the third set 25-11 to send the game to its final set.
The Wolves and Scotties traded points back and forth to start the final showdown before the Wolves used the same momentum to cruise to a 25-18 victory.
Summer Davis (Atlanta, Ga.) finished with her first double-double of the season with 10 kills and 15 dis.
Adrionna Foster (Oxford, Ala.) finished with her first collegiate double-double with 24 assists and 15 digs.
Agnes Scott will next travel to LaGrange, Georgia for conference matchups against Maryville College and LaGrange College on Friday, October 7th. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m.
