Maryville, LaGrange Top Scotties in Final CCS Tri-Match of the Regular Season

MARYVILLE, Tenn.—Agnes Scott Volleyball closed out the regular season this afternoon, where they fell to LaGrange College and Maryville College in straight sets. The Panthers took the first match of the day 25-19, 25-18, 25-23, getting strong on offense as the match wore on. Maryville kept its winning streak alive with a pair of wins on the day, including a 25-10, 25-13, 25-16 win over the Scotties.

The Scotties fall to 0-29 on the season and 0-15 in conference action. The Scotties will make its first Collegiate Conference of the South Tournament appearance on Tuesday, November 1st against Wesleyan College hosted by Covenant College. First serve is set for 5 p.m.

Match One: LaGrange 3 – 0 Agnes Scott
The Scotties played their game in the first set, taking a late lead over the Panthers offense looking to find any rhythm whatsoever. However, LaGrange turned a two-point deficit into a run to end the game for the early 1-0 match lead.

The second set lacked just as much flow as LaGrange did just enough to clinch a 25-18 result before they ran away with things in the third to win the match outright.

LaGrange hit .084 as a team with Jharia Harris leading the way with 10 of the team's 29 kills. Vianca Colon Gonzalez had 23 assists for the Panthers, while Jharia Harris  paced the defensive effort with 18 digs.

Agnes Scott hit .017 as a team with Alex Roquemore (Dallas, Texas) leading the way with eight of the team's 29 kills. Adrionna Foster (Oxford, Ala.) had 14 assists and 14 digs to pace the defensive effort for the Scotties.

Match Two: Maryville 3 – 0 Agnes Scott
The Scotties gave the Scots everything they could handle in the first set, jumping out an early advantage after a serve for an ace.

However, Maryville flexed its depth and talent up front with a furious rally to take the lead and held the Scotties to only one point the rest of the way. The Scots' service game carried them in a big way for much of the afternoon, but at no bigger moment than to turn the early tone around.

The Scots led comfortably the rest of the match, besting Agnes Scott 25-13 and 25-16 over the final two sets.

Roquemore had a nice rebound game for the Scotties with three kills, one service ace and five blocks.

NEXT UP
Agnes Scott will next travel to Lookout Mountain, Georgia for the Collegiate Conference of the South Volleyball Tournament First Round hosted by Covenant College. The Scotties will face Wesleyan College on Tuesday, November 1st. First serve is set for 5 p.m.
