DEMOREST, Ga.—Things did not go quite as planned for Agnes Scott women's soccer as the Scotties fell to the top-seeded Piedmont University 4-0 in the quarterfinals round of the Collegiate Conference of the South Conference Tournament on Saturday afternoon. The Lions pressured the Scotties all afternoon while limiting chances on the other end to punch their ticket to a semifinals round matchup and will host Covenant College on November 2.
Agnes Scott ends its season at 2-12-1, while Piedmont improved to 11-5-2.
Piedmont landed a crooked number on the Scotties for the second time this season after taking a 6-0 result to clinch the top seed. In that matchup, Agnes Scott was able to hang punch for punch with the Lions, but could not finish prime opportunities.
The rematch provided a much different picture.
Piedmont held the Scotties to only two shots for the game after Agnes Scott was able to get loose several times during the earlier match this season. On the other side, the Lions churned out 35 chances and put 13 of them on goal to force senior keeper
Ashley Kopczyk (Elgin, Ill.) into tough spots far too many times.
Four different Lions scored on the day, including Abby Judge, who scored her first goal of the season against the Scotties earlier in the season matchup. The ultimate backbreaker looked to be an own goal committed by the Scotties just minutes into the second half, which gave Piedmont on a three-score lead.
Kopczyk made nine save for the Scotties in defeat.
Despite the outcome the Scotties fought hard and had a great season!
