DECATUR, Ga. —Agnes Scott Volleyball fell to divisional opponent Piedmont in three sets on Tuesday night at the Woodruff Gymnasium. Piedmont managed to win all three sets in very different ways as the Scotties applied pressure with a chance to flip momentum around. The Lions found their groove late in the third to close out the sweep of the Scotties.
Piedmont hit at a high level all night, which the Scottie defense answered all night. The powerful outside attack from senior
Alex Roquemore (Dallas, Texas) and
Summer Davis (Atlanta, Ga.)—each finished with eight and seven kills.
Alex Roquemore and
Summer Davis was a secret weapon for the Scotties early as they lit up the scoresheet in the opening set with kills and blocks. However, Piedmont converted 27attack attempts into 13 kills to take a 25-14 win in the first.
Piedmont started the second set strong but the Scotties gave them a run for their money finishing at 25-22 to set themselves up for a sweep.
Agnes Scott battled back in the final frame despite a slow start, turning a 5-2 deficit into a 12-7 lead in mere moments. The Scotties held a comfortable advantage approaching the end of the set at 21-17, making
Piedmont to take a timeout to regroup. The quick break worked wonders for the visitors, who won consecutive points coming out the break to virtually put the match on ice before finishing it off 25-17.
Piedmont hit for 32 kills and a .211 percentage compared to 38 and .010 for the home side. Davis led all players with eight kills, while the
Adrionna Foster finished with a game-high 21 assists.
Ariel Henderson collected 12 digs for the Scotties.
